You Are Not Stuck. Your Brain Is Following Old Instructions.

Jul 30, 2026

If you have ever felt completely stuck — unable to move forward no matter how much you wanted to, no matter how hard you tried — I want to offer you something that changed everything for me.

You are not stuck because something is wrong with you. You are not stuck because you lack discipline, or intelligence, or the right opportunities.

You are stuck because your brain is following a set of instructions that were written a long time ago — and nobody ever told you that you could rewrite them.

How the Instructions Get Written

From the time we are very young, our brains are absorbing information and making meaning of it. A comment from a teacher. A pattern in a household. An experience that didn't go the way we hoped. A message — spoken or unspoken — about what people like us do or don't achieve.

Our brains, trying to be efficient, turn those experiences into patterns. Those patterns become the autopilot our thinking runs on. And here is the part that matters: up to 96% of our thoughts are repetitive, following those same patterns every day. Up to 80% of those automatic thoughts are negative.

This means that for most of us, the majority of our mental activity on any given day is not new thinking. It is the same old instructions, running on repeat, shaping what we notice, what we believe is possible, and what we do about it.

"Feeling stuck is not a character flaw. It is a signal that the instructions your brain is running need to be updated — and that is something you have the power to do."

The Instructions Are Not Permanent

This is the part I most want you to hear — because it is the part that most people never get told.

The brain is not fixed. It is neuroplastic — meaning it has the remarkable ability to form new patterns, new pathways, new ways of thinking and responding, at any age and at any stage of life.

The instructions that are keeping you stuck right now are not permanently written into who you are. They are patterns. And patterns can be changed — not overnight, not without effort, but genuinely, measurably, and often faster than you would expect once you understand how.

The first step is always the same: recognize that the loop is running. See it for what it is — not the truth about you, but an old set of instructions your brain has been faithfully following.

Then give it new ones.

Where to Start

You do not have to overhaul everything at once. You just need to find one place where you can give your brain a slightly different instruction than the one it has been running.

One question asked with genuine curiosity instead of judgment. One thing noticed and appreciated that would have gone unacknowledged before. One morning spent deliberately setting the direction of your thinking before the day sets it for you.

These are not small things dressed up as big ones. They are the actual mechanism of change — repeated, consistently, until the new instruction becomes the default.

You are not stuck. You are in the middle of rewriting your instructions. There is a significant difference.

What is one old instruction your brain has been running that you are ready to rewrite? I'd love to hear it in the comments.
